Arguably the world's leading it-analysis Institute Gartner evaluates each year the IT vendors’ relative positions in Gartner's so-called Magic Quadrant®.
Among the vendors of data warehouse-database management systems (DBMS) assesses Gartner with the end of 2008, once again Microsoft's data warehouse- platform – MS SQL Server - as "Leader".
Gartner finds that Microsoft has prospered in the market thanks to the low prices and changes in market and requirements. Gartner also notes, among other things, that Microsoft' acquisition of DATAllegro bodes well for SQL Server' ability to scale with the ever-growing volumes of data to be handled by the data warehouses.
Strengths by MS SQL Server Data Warehouse-platform
As strengths by the Microsoft’ data warehouse platform Gartner’ analysis in particular emphasizes:
• Low price ("high value with a low total cost of ownership (TCO)")
• Sufficient scalability as well as focus on the development of increased scalability in line with market requirements
• Very large and global base of support and development resources
• Enough functionality for data management and integration as well as focus on the development of increased functionality.
